Corrosion Technologies - CorrosionX

Have you ever gotten offshore only to find that your favorite reel has ‘frozen up”?
Ever look closely to what happens to alligator clips on your shrimping light after three or four trips ?
Ever had blood dry on your gunnel and then have bleach it to get it off?
Have you looked at the exposed steel parts of your trailer after a few trips to the ramp?
All of their product.

If you answered any of these questions with a “yes” then you need to read further. These problems and many other problems pertaining the oxidation of iron, commonly referred to a rust, can be almost completely eliminated form the list of those things that make you mad.

How do things rust or corrode? If you examine it, there are all the components of a 'battery'; an anode, a cathode, an electrolyte, and a path of current. Eliminate of isolate any one of these 4 and you have 'killed the battery' and stopped the damage.

Corrosion Technologies have developed a series of products that will, if used according to the manufacturer’s directions, will reduce dramatically or eliminate rust from your life. No more expensive replacements of those things that we usually accept as part of life’s way of getting even.

Let’s start out with the first item: CorrosionX. This product, originally developed for the aerospace industry, is a special blend of inhibitors, lubricants and ‘surface-active’ agents. It stops and prevents rust better than even products that are fortified with Teflon. It stops rusting and corrosion by disrupting on the molecular level. It is non-flamable and has a dielectric capacity of 36,000 volts. It will also penetrate and loosen frozen parts faster than products designed for that purpose.

After getting our sample shipment and reading the literature, I couldn’t wait to start testing some of my ‘pet’ problems. First item: pliers. We have gone through several pairs of needle nosed pliers over the past few years, buying what were classified as stainless steel but all failed to keep from rusting. I hang ours on the end of the tackle box that is usually sitting on the deck near the gunnel. Continually getting dunked with spray from running, splashed with the wash down hose or get mucked up with fish guts and blood removing hooks, they really take a beating.

The pair we currently use are now over 15 months in use. The first 6 months they were treated with a well know water displacement spray. After each trip or at best two trips, I would have spend several minutes flexing the handles back and forth working the spray into the hinge of the pliers. I applied CorrosionX 9 months ago. I have only had to treat these pliers twice. The second application was more of a preventative measure as opposed to the usual recovery type measure I had to use in the past. These pliers work better than when they were first new and look great.

Another pet peeve I had was alligator clips on my shrimp light wires. They would rust out in less than a full season. When I got the Precision Electric unit (See Precision Reel Product tests) I used Corrosion X on the clips before taking the reel offshore. I have not given these clip any special treatment and have used the reel both here in FL and in Alaska all summer. In AK, it was used on a daily basis for over 6 weeks. The clips look new. I have been amazed at the lack of corrosion.
Bearing after tests

This picture, ball bearings, shows one unit treated and one untreated. They were both sprayed with saltwater every day for two weeks. What a huge difference!

Why does it work better than other treatments? Most other product use what is called barrier coatings. These work as long as the barrier isn’t broken. Frequently, the wax type coatings are porous and allows moisture to enter. If these are applied over existing rust, it seals in the electrolyte and more rust takes place. What is even worse, the rust or corrosion may be hidden from sight by the coating and not be apparent until after extensive and expensive damage has occurred.

Corrosion Technologies process, called Fluid Thin-Film Coating (FTFC) provides an ultra thin, high dielectric film that stops the corrosion process dead in its tracks. Because of its molecular structure, it penetrates into smaller openings faster and provides the protection we all need.

An added capability that they have developed is called Polar Bonding. What this means is that the product employs the electronic fact that opposites attract. The molecules of metal are charge positive and negative. The molecules of “X” are also similarly charged. The opposites attract each other and form a bonding on the surface of the metal that provides a better lubricated surface than even those Teflon fortified products.

Because this is safe to use on electrical circuitry, many users have found that it has eliminated those horrible re-wiring jobs and stops the terminals in the fuse panels from turning green. Some letters from users state that they have actually have reclaimed radar units and other equipment using Corrosion X after the manufacturer had deemed the units beyond repair.

One other test I have performed was to apply a small amount to a rag and then I rubbed one section of one side of my framing square. Since applying it 6 months ago, I haven’t done anything different to it from past usage; it has been left in the rear of my truck between uses. The area treated has not only stopped rusting but actually the rust has reduced to the point that the numbers on the square are easier to read.
