OnLine Petition to Fight Fisheries Mismanagement

This site has been created by several fishing clubs, organizations, and anglers to collect a petition to present to Congress on behalf of concerned recreational anglers regarding fisheries closures and other actions the South Atlantic Fisheries Marine Council, NOAA, and the Commerce Department have recently taken.

I hereby petition Congress to pass legislation to rescind the Red Snapper Interim Rule published December 4, 2009 requiring the closure of the Red Snapper fishery effective January 4, 2010. In addition, I would ask the Congress to restrict the Commerce Department from enacting any further closures in the South Atlantic region until fisheries managers fulfill their obligation under the Magnuson-Stevens Reauthorization Act of 2007 that requires improvements to the quality and accuracy of information generated by Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS) and until such time as it successfully passes peer review.
